I want to thank you, God! You deserve more praise and thanks than I give you.
You’re love is never-ending. You never fail.
God I acknowledge you as my healer, sustainer, savior, creator, friend, and father. You are everything everyone needs.
You’re love is never-ending. You never fail.
It amazes me how you created the skies, the planets and the unseen heavens. Your creation never ceases to amaze me. I am fascinated by your handiwork.
You’re love is never-ending. You never fail.
The oceans roar at your command and are stilled by your whisper. The sound and the smell of the ocean you had in mind. It refreshes my soul. You knew that when you created them!
You’re love is never-ending. You never fail.
You were with me from the very beginning. You created me uniquely and put your royal crest upon me as your child, a child of the King! Everything that comes my way passes through your hands first. Knowing that gives me great assurance that you are in control.
You’re love is never-ending. You never fail.
Even as our forefathers proclaimed your power in the past, I proclaim your power in the present. You rescued your people and continue to do so today. You are with us every step of the way.
You’re love is never-ending. You never fail.
You took me to the desert and you delivered me through it, literally and figuratively. You drew me to your side and for that I can never thank you enough. You taught me that in order to be like your son, I will have to go through challenges and heartache in life. You never tell us that once we accept you that life will be a bed of roses. If we are to be like Christ, we will suffer like Christ. In this world we face struggles, but HALLELUJAH, you have already overcome the world!
You’re love is never-ending. You never fail.
I’ve lost my way so many times. I’ve desired things that made you cry. I’ve acted in ways that brought shame to your name. In our world, I would have been disowned but you refuse to let me go. You are there waiting with open arms because you never leave me. Even when I leave you, I can’t escape you.
You’re love is never-ending. You never fail.
I want to thank you, God! You did it all! You take care of my every need and provide beyond what I could ever hope or ask for. May you receive all the praise for all you have done and continue to do!
You’re love is never-ending. You never fail.

remembering...
it's Memorial Day. it's a time when families gather and bbq. friends get together and swim or go to the beach. it's a time when people focus on their 3 days off. as an Army spouse (retired), i can't help but stop and think of the brave men and women who have given their lives for our freedom and for those who continue to serve and defend our country every day. i am so proud of my husband for serving honorably in the Army for 22 years. he is a patriot. each and every Memorial Day, we as a nation stop and thank those who have served and are currently serving. but how many of us really do that? how many of us forgo the picnic or the party to go to a veteran's hospital or a cemetery? how many of us call those we know who are currently serving or have served before and say "thank you for protecting my freedoms"? it is nice to have a 3 day weekend but let's not forget what it's all about. let's not forget those who don't have the luxury of having a holiday weekend because they are in a war zone. let's not forget that our military men and women are defending the freedoms that we take so easily for granted...you can have an opinion and share it because of those who guard your freedom to do so. thank you to all the Soldiers, Marines and Airmen for your sacrifice to our country. thank you to all the spouses and family members...you have the toughest job in the military.

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead.
Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

perspective:the appearance of things relative to one another as determined by their distance from the viewer

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.' One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her,'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The
sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that... The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him. Her boyfriend
left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'
i received this story via email the other day. of course, i don't know if this is an "actual" story but the illustration is fantastic. for a girl who just wanted her sight. a girl who wasn't able to give the same love she received because of her own self-centered nature. what a sad way to live.
in a similar way, Christ came and didn't just give His eyes, He gave His life. we are like that blind girl...just wanting to be "whole" again. our blindness could be insecurity, shame, guilt, addiction, etc. we are looking for a solution just so we can continue on, not realizing that the gifts we do receive, come from the One who sacrificed it all for us to be whole. we walk away from God so often not realizing that He has what we need.

moving beyond unhappiness
the second section in the book entitled, "Lord, I Just Want to Be Happy" is on moving beyond our unhappiness. this book is written by Leslie Vernick. she has an education background in biblical counseling and cognitive therapy. i like how she uses her various points of view in her writing.- Much of our unhappiness results from wrong thinking and wrong habits, not always situational factors.
- Living in God's light opens our eyes to the pitfalls and dangers and teaches us to recognize true beauty as well as what really matters. In the dark, we are much more vulnerable to being deceived and making foolish choices because in the dark, we aren't aware that the edge is so close.
- We too must come to see and accept that we are not the center of truth or life, or even the main character of our story. God is, and he doesn't revolve around us. We are here to glorify, love, and please him. When we live with that reality in the forefront of our minds, everything looks differently to us.
- At one time or another we have all bought into Satan's lie that more (food, love, expensive purses or cars, status, power, sex, money-something other than God) will give us greater love, peace, pleasure, meaningfulness, and happiness. But it wasn't true for Adam and Eve, and it is not true today.
- Many times we don't seek God's love or forgiveness because we do not recognize or admit our desperate need for it.
- To receive what God offers us, we have to own our helplessness and be willing to receive.
- We cannot be filled up with God when we are still full of ourselves.
- God has hardwired our bodies as well as our spirits to feel joy-filled and wonderfully alive when we live in tune with our Creator and his values and purposes. When we refuse, we not only stay spiritually weak, we cause harm to ourselves.
- When we demand or expect that another person meet all of our needs (and wants), or fulfill us and make us happy, we have put them in God's place, and we will always be disappointed.
- What keeps us moving forward toward our goal is our determination to get there, one step at a time, persevering through obstacles and failure. Obstacles often appear as trials that God allows in order to strengthen our perseverance. In the same way, how do we develop patience if we're never put in frustrating situations? How can we build more self-control if we are never tempted? How do we trust God more if we never battle doubt?
- Positive thinking and willpower alone is never strong enough to be transformed into a beautiful person. For a complete makeover, Paul says, we must train ourselves to be godly so that inner beauty becomes more natural to us than ugliness (I Timothy 4:7).
- The opposite of disciplining ourselves isn't freedom, it is bondage. When we're undisciplined and out of control, we are slaves to our passions, our appetites, our ruling desires, and our emotions.
"He who ignores discipline despises himself." Proverbs 15:32
- Freedom from slavery to our cravings, feelings, wants, and yes, even needs as well as the freedom to become who we were created to be. We can have incredible peace and joy available to us when we are no longer tossed about by our unruly flesh, our negative emotions, other people, or even difficult circumstances.
Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel wrote about our slide into self-centeredness and self-absorption:
"Needs are looked upon today as if they were holy, as if they contained the quintessence of eternity. Needs are our gods, and we toil and spare no effort to gratify them. Suppression of desire is considered a sacrilege that must inevitably avenge itself in the form of some mental disorder...We feel jailed in the confinement of personal needs. The more we indulge in satisfactions, the deeper is our feeling of oppressiveness. We must be able to say no to ourselves in the name of a higher yes."
wow. those words are convicting to me.
in finishing this section on moving beyond unhappiness, the author makes this statement:
"Happiness is being fully alive, awake, and attentive to the awe and beauty of God."
are you fully alive, awake and attentive? do you see the beauty of God all around you and in every aspect of life even in the challenges?
let's live as God intended us to live today and see God for all He is. keep your eyes open and your ears alert...you never know what God will use to reveal Himself to you.

Lord, I just want to be happy
I've just finished reading a book called, "Lord, I Just Want to Be Happy" by Leslie Vernick. She is a licensed clinical social worker with a private counseling practice. I hadn't heard anything about this book before buying it but it jumped out at me on the shelf when I saw it. The front of the book has a picture of a person with an umbrella and off in the distance a rainbow. I must admit I hadn't even noticed the rainbow until finishing the book...so that must tell you what kind of person I am off the bat (pessimistic by nature). It's a great book coming from both the secular view of psychology and a Christian point of view from scripture. It's another book in which I underlined a great deal of passages. The other nice thing about this book is it has Question and Discuss area at the end of each chapter so it can be used as a Bible Study. I think it helps too, to write down your thoughts as you are learning.
So here are some quotes from the first part of the book on the topic of understanding our unhappiness.
- True inner happiness doesn't involve the absence of pain. The happy person doesn't deny her inner ache, but is able to embrace suffering and transform it so it doesn't become crippling or deadening.
- We've allowed our well-being and happiness to be contingent upon getting something from this world. We've not grasped that lasting happiness has more to do with the way our internal world is oriented than what we get from temporal pleasures.
- Heartfelt happiness isn't found in fun places, sinful pleasure, popularity, productivity, power, or prestige. Rather it is the result of right (truthful) thinking, right relationships, right choices, and right living. Happiness is not something we receive; it is something we become as we love God and live our lives enjoying Him and His creation and growing in His wisdom.
- Much of our misery is caused by the stories we tell ourselves about how things should be...rather than what actually is.
- Jesus has come to set the captives free. Whether we realize it or not many of us are captive to the lie that something other than God will bring us happiness and fulfill our longings. When we put our hope in or expect something or someone other than Him to fill us and make us happy, He will surely frustrate us. But He doesn't do it to punish us. He does it to rescue us from our disordered attachments and delusions, and from ourselves. God promises to meet our needs-but what we feel we need, and what we truly need, may be very different.
- True prosperity is never acquired through worldly accomplishments or possessions, but rather through the awareness and ability to live in God's loving presence.
- Freedom isn't license to do anything we want. Freedom is the power to say no to what we want, for the sake of a higher good or goal.
- Satan tries to beguile us by filling our belly with tasty versions of counterfeit joy, peace, love, and hope. He tries to get us to believe power makes peace, passion brings love, pleasure gives joy and popularity, prestige and possessions give hope and security.
Some great points made in just the first section of this book. Part two is on moving beyond our unhappiness and part three on practicing happiness. I'll share some highlights from part two tomorrow.

steadfast and secure

as i come to the end of " so long, insecurity" by beth moore, i look back and see the true journey i traveled as i read this book. when i started, i was a woman full of self-doubt...unsure of myself...putting my trust in people and things that couldn't possibly give me security. even as a follower of Christ, it is easy to get caught in this trap and lose focus. what a blessing to be reminded that the things in which i was placing my trust, were giving me a false sense of security. we can try to obtain wealth, looks, popularity, good standing in our communities, and we will still fall short...we will still be insecure because those things will never fill that void in our lives. only Christ can. here are some of the poignant remarks from the last several chapters of this book.
- Every no God has issued to me was to keep me from missing a glorious and far greater yes.
- To find yourself, your true, secure self, you must lose yourself in something larger.
- Believe that He (Christ) loves you and has you covered and takes every one of your hits as if they were aimed at His own skin. Get down to the bottom of what frightens you, and then pitch it to Him like a hot potato.
- Trusting God...Trusting God with yourself. With your husband. With your job. With your health. With your family. With your friends. With your threat. I'm talking about entering into a transforming, two-sentance dialogue with a very real, very active God who sees all things and is intimately acquainted with everything concerning you:
You: Lord, I don't know if I can trust______________________ or not.
God: But can you trust Me?
Any time insecurity hits, you can be sure that you are afraid of something.
- If we can't count on God, for crying out loud, who can we count on?
- God will take care of us no matter what. No matter what. If we want to be secure people, this mind-set is a necessity.
- We must not let the enemy of our souls get away with convincing us that anything can utterly destroy.
- God will work all things-no matter how difficult or devestating-out to our advantage. Our enemy will not triumph over us. It may hurt in the beginning, but it's going to be beautiful "in the end".
- Fear of the future makes people settle for things in the present that completely defy abundant life.
- Based on the authority of God Himself and centuries of witnesses to His faithfulness, if you will place your trust in Him, He will always make sure that in the end you will look upon your foes in triumph. No illness, loss, rejection, or betrayal will ever get the last word. You will stand to your feet stronger than ever.
- Every time we glance in a mirror, we come face-to-face with a supernatural work of God.
- He is calling you, beloved. He is summoning you to freedom. He is wooing you to joy. He's inviting you to live on purpose and spin around with childlike faith in the acute awareness of His love for you. His hand is outstretched. Take your dignity back no matter where you've been or what has happened to you. Hold on to your security for all you're worth. It is yours. Nothing and no one can take it from you.
The Lord is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap. Proverbs 3:26
what an amazing process and i'm so thankful i was drawn to get this book. i hope what i've shared from my own reading has been an encouragement to someone. i would encourage every woman to read this book...it is a good reminder for those who know who they are in Christ and a god kick in the pants for those who are searching for security in all the wrong places.
(She) will have no fear of bad news, (her) heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. (Her) heart is secure, (she) will have no fear; in the end (she) will look in triumph on (her) foes. Psalm 112:7-8

my security is mine to keep
one of the powerful things i've learned about my security is that it is mine alone to keep and no one can take it from me because my security is in Christ. one of the ways men and women get caught up in insecurity is by comparing themselves to others. how many times a day do i do that? way too many. by comparing, i'm showing my doubt in the One who created me. God created me in His image. wow. that knocks my socks off!- An insecure person's greatest need for control is directed toward those who have the most potential to either threaten her security or strengthen it.
- Some (people) won't do what it takes to liberate themselves because their particular form of bondage provides a momentary respite from real life...at the end of the day, people do what they want to do. You can't make them do something else. You can't force them. You can't change them. You can't deliver them. Only God can. And that's why He's omnipotent and we're not.
- We are not in charge. Somewhere along the way, we each have to acknowledge that our loved one is a separate person from us-someone God loves, pursues, and when necessary chastises. When we try to do God's job, we get in God's way. We are called to cherish, support and pray for others, but tying our security to them is a lost cause. Hand that rope over to God. Let Him undo that tangled-up mess and retie your security to Himself. He's the One with all the power.
- What God initiates, He equips us to handle.
- God is the only one who can know a person's every thought, every motive, every temptation, and every flaw yet still feel good about Himself. If we want to become secure women of God, we must cease asking questions we can't handle the answers to.
- Insecurities do not attract. They repel. Insecurities do not invite intimacy. They invite uncertainty. They do not work for us on any level at all, except to open our hearts and minds to the healing, securing strength of Christ.
- One of the most common human claims is that we can't change the way we feel. That may be true, but we can change the way we think, which will change the way we act. And as we change the way we act, the way we feel also begins to change.
- God gave you your security, and nobody gets to force it from you. You must make up your mind that the only way someone can take it from you is for you to hand it over. You have the right to hold on to security for dear life in every situation and every relationship. It's the power of choice.
Galatians 5:26 MSG
We will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.

clothed in strength and dignity

as i look through the next 5 chapters from beth moore's book, "so long, insecurity", i find many highlighted passages. beth moore did an excellent job describing how women and men battle insecurity and she offered Biblical solutions to those issues. what a blessing to be reminded i'm not the only one who struggles! here are some of the passages that were significant to me.
- The One who created us in His own image and then bragged about His own handiwork extends such an ethic to us, but we have to be willing to redirect our preoccupations.
- We need to recognize when we're overloading ourselves on media hype and back off when we sense it tripping our insecurity switch. Let's learn how to put something down or turn something off when it's just too much or makes a lie too believable. We need to make sure we're deliberately exposing ourselves to materials that edify the human soul rather than erode it.
- We live our lives screaming, "somebody notice me!" And do you want to hear something interesting? That's exactly how God made us. That very need is built into our human hard drive to send us on a search for our Creator, who can assign us more significance than we can handle. He not only notices us, He never takes His eyes off us.
- In the radiance of His greatness, we are made great.
- Humility is a crucial component in true security.
- God thinks we are beautiful no matter what. He is enthralled with our beauty.
- Insecurity makes us settle. Insecurity makes us distracted. Insecurity robs our confidence in our rich inheritance from God. Insecurity makes us put our gifts on a shelf to gather demonic dust. Insecurity disturbs our sleep. Insecurity derails our life.
- We are not nearly as likely to react with the same level of insecurity when we remember how well covered we are by God.
- No matter how foolish insecurity has tried to make us feel, we have the right to dignity because God Himself gave it to us. If we really believed this truth, we wouldn't have to mask our insecurity with pride. If we knew who we were and what God has conferred upon us, what everybody else thought of us would grow less and less significant.
i hope those that read this find encouragement in knowing you're not alone in feelings of insecurity and that there is a way to be free from those feelings. in Christ alone do i find my significance and i hope you do too.
we are clothed in strength and dignity!

one step at a time
i shared earlier that i finished reading beth moore's new book, "so long, insecurity". i think i have half of the book underlined because there is so much truth that hits home. i would be the first to admit my insecurities and trust me, there are many. thankfully by reading this book, i've been able to get a grasp on the things that have robbed me of my security and realize i am clothed in strength and dignity through Christ.i would like to share some of the underlined passages from the first five chapters.
- Insecurity's best cover is perfectionism.
- The insecure person also harbors unrealistic expectations about love and relationships. These expectations, for themselves and for others, are often unconscious. The insecure person creates a situation in which being disappointed and hurt in relationships in almost inevitable. Ironically, although insecure people are easily and frequently hurt, they are usually unaware of how they are unwitting accomplices in creating their own misery.
- When we allow God's truth to eclipse every false positive and let out eyes spring open to the treasure we have, there in His glorious reflection we'll also see the treasure we are.
- We're not jealous of people in whom we see nothing admirable. In fact, it is the fear that they have something we don't that makes us most insecure.
- Let Him (God) tell you you're worth wanting, loving, even liking, pursuing, fighting for, and yes, beloved, keeping. Whatever you do, don't reject the only One wholly incapable of rejecting you.
- God can bring freedom and vision to your life because of those limitations that you would never have discovered without them. You can let your limitations make you either insecure or unstoppable.
- He (God) knows it's scary to be us.
WOW! that is one of the only expressions i could use when i read this book. next to some of the underlined passages i have notes. a lot of wow's, amen's and true's. we all can relate to this topic but through Christ we can have our security restored and the awesome thing is no one and nothing can take that from us!

18 years. is that possible?
sheryl, unique, funny, witty, creative, loving, kind, beautiful, respectful, gracious...sheryl, a friend of the dearest kind, a faithful friend. she genuinely cared about others and her heart showed it.
when someone dies, people have a tendancy to say that they "lost" a loved one. sheryl is not lost. i know exactly where she is. she may be gone from this earth but she is now in heaven with her Creator. because of that hope, i look forward to the day where i will be reunited with sheryl once again.
until that day, i will continue to miss sheryl, think of her, love her, wonder what life would be like with her here, and i will continue to stop and remember every may 8th.
Don't be mad if I cry
It just hurts so bad, sometimes
'Cause everyday it's sinking in
And I have to say goodbye all over again
You know I bet it feels good
To have the weight of this world off your shoulders now
I'm dreaming of the day when I'm finally there with you
Save a place for me, save a place for me
I'll be there soon, I'll be there soon
Save a place for me, save some grace for me
I'll be there soon, I'll be there soon
I have asked the questions why
But I guess the answer is for another time
So instead I pray, with every tear
And be thankful for the time I had you here
I wanna live my life just like you did
Make the most of my time just like you did
And I want to make my home up in the sky just like you did
Oh, but until I get there...
Until I get there...
Save a place for me, save a place for me
I'll be there soon, I'll be there soon
Save a place for me, save some grace for me
I'll be there soon, I'll be there soon

how did my mom do it?
well it finally happened. my first experience being a mom and being sick. earlier in the week i encountered my little man being sick for the first time and that was rough but at least i was healthy! today i sit in my pajamas as my baby boy sleeps, wishing i could actually fall asleep and rest but for some reason i can't. go figure...so i sit here wondering how did my mom do it?my mom had four children and i never can really recall her being sick and not being able to function. she always found a way to do what she needed to do for us and was able to exhibit grace even when under the weather.
the other memory that came to my mind was what it was like to be a sick little girl and having my mom care for me. i must say my mom was the best at care-taking. being sick at home usually meant some time spent on the couch in the family room. mom would make me a menu for my meals and i would check mark the items that sounded good to eat. of course since i was sick, usually the menu consisted of a scrambled egg and toast. if i didn't feel too sick, sometimes i even got butter on the toast! but this was such a special way for my mom to care for me when i was feeling poorly. not like i ever tried to fake being sick *wink wink* but those times spent at home have been treasured in my heart. i hope i can be the same kind of caring, devoted, gracious, loving, self-sacrificing mom as my wonderful mother was to me.
uh oh, little man is awake. time for this mother to muster all the strength she can get despite the illness plaguing her body.
happy mother's day! thank you, mom!

wave bye-bye to insecurity, my friends!
i just wrapped up reading beth moore's newest book, "so long, insecurity you've been a bad friend to us". what a great book!i had never read anything by beth moore before but i read an excerpt in a magazine several months ago that her book was about to be released. since the topic hit a chord with me, i just knew i needed to get this book.
i've always struggled with insecurity...do i look ok? what about my weight? will i ever get married? does he really love me? does this new outfit make me look thinner? will i ever be secure? each of us struggles with finding our true security. and i learned that our insecurities stem from our fears.
beth moore took an honest look at her own life and delves into a touchy subject for some. for me, it's a subject i have always needed to conquer and after reading this book, i'm at least on the right track.
the truth is we will never find security in things we own, or have...we will never find security in our friends, family or our mate...we will never find security in our jobs or the amount of money we have or don't have. the only way for us to be secure is through Jesus Christ!
Jesus has promised to never leave us or forsake us...people on this earth come and go, marriages fail, friends de-friend but Jesus will never fail us. Jesus has promised to provide our every need...we may lose our job, fall on tough economic times and wonder how the bills will be paid, but Jesus provides.
we may think, "oh if i just had more money things would be better" or "if i was married i would be happier" or "if i lost 10 pounds i would feel more confident". all of those things are based on feelings and our feelings change through the circumstances we are in; however, we can have a constant...we can have security regardless or the circumstance through Christ. of course it might make things better if you had more money, but that doesn't bring security. it might make you feel better for a time if you lost 10 pounds, but the insecurity would rear it's ugly head in another area. we need to stop placing our trust/security in the things of this earth and the things that we "think" will bring security/happiness.
this book had so much to say that i'm going to take a couple of days to share some of the gems i found inside it. this post is just my heartfelt reaction after finishing the book. i hope you come back to read some of beth's thoughts from her personal journey.

the power of prayer to change your marriage

so i've been reading a lot. i mean, a lot! i've never been a huge reader but lately i've had the time and the drive to read. a book i just finished was called "the power of prayer to change your marriage" by stormie omartian. i had heard of her "power of a praying..." series but never read any of them. this book just jumped out to me.
it was an excellent book and i think i have over half of it underlined! each chapter covered an different area that marriages can face. the topics included:
Communication
Anger, Rudeness, Abuse
Forgiveness
Depression/Negative Emotions

each chapter was filled with incredible truth and jam packed with scripture to back up those truths. regardless of your marital status, it is a powerful book that can change your relationship...and the Lord knows, we all need to change!
here are some of the nuggets of wisdom i gleaned.
-it is not only about praying through struggles to find healing, restoration, and change. it is also about praying to prevent these struggles from ever developing into anything serious in the first place.
-getting married is just the very beginning of your relationship. being married frees you to feel secure enough to let your true self show-for better or for worse-so you can see where you need God's healing and transformation. staying married depends on you both being able to communicate with one another.
-forgiveness doesn't make the other person right; it makes you free.
-God has given you a way out of them (situations) through the power of prayer, praise, His Word, His presence, and His love. bask in all that until you are free. and don't lose hope. be confident of this, that "He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." (Phil 1:6) God won't give up on you, so don't give up on yourself or your spouse.
-any secret life of lust grieves the Holy Spirit. it makes a mockery out of a Savior who laid down His life so that we can escape sin and its consequences. it's as if He set you free in vain because you don't want what He died to give you. it offends God when His children choose to open up to that which separates them from Him.
-when you keep your marriage vows, God stands behind your marriage. that's why your prayers for the preservation and strengthening of your relationship have such power. they are already God's will before you even speak them. praying puts God's will into action. it means God's power will stand against any enemy you face-whether the enemy comes from the outside or it is actually one or both of you.
-because God is a God of miracles, He can bring back what has been lost or resurrect what has died. the greatest thing you can do while waiting for your miracle is to let the joy of the Lord rise in your heart.
WOW! some powerful statements there. it's a challenging book! definitely a read for those who are looking for God's best in their relationship.

"God is in the hard stuff"

This is the title of a book I've been perusing the last couple of days. It was written by Bruce Bickel and Stan Jantz. It's been good to be reminded of several truths when we face difficulty in life. One of the sections in the book was on marriage. Here are several things that I couldn't get out of my head.
"When a marriage begins to disintegrate, there is friction between the spouses. That dislocation of the relationship is always difficult to endure, but both individuals know that it will happen. The often unexpected and unarticulated pain of marriage difficulties comes from a sense of disillusionment. At some point, each spouse will come to the shocking realization that their romantic dreams of matrimonial bliss are totally unrealistic. The wife is dejected because she had envisioned a continued courtship with lasting, loving attention from the man she married; this is now just a dashed dream. The husband is disconsolate because he has not received the love and respect he had assumed would always be forthcoming from his bride; the stark reality of it all hurts."
Wow. It's good for me to be reminded that I often romanticize my marriage and how that is just a disillusion. As a little girl, I grew up reading fairy tale stories and wishing that one day, I too would live happily ever after. It never will be like those romantic stories. Because we are sinners, and we marry sinners, we will never have a perfect relationship. If we love God first we are able to love our spouse like God would.
"Whether a marriage is irrevocably broken or still hanging together by a thread, it is important to realize that a person's needs will never be completely fulfilled by a spouse. That is an unreasonable-and impossible-expectation. While a loving spouse can be supportive in many ways, only God can provide you with a sense of worth and wholeness. Don't expect a spouse to provide what is available only from God."
For me, that is a reminder I need to hear. My first and foremost love should be to God. My husband comes second and my child third. It's difficult to keep that in balance.
Here are some good summary points from the end of the chapter:
-"God should be the love of your life."Some good reminders about marriage whether you are married or not.
-"A good marriage won't happen unless you get a divorce from yourself.
You can't love God or your spouse if you love yourself more."
-"Don't be desperate to get married. Be desperate for God."
